Hello all,

Please excuse the cross-posting, but this message does involve CORBA, Perl
and Java.

I have just finished writing a short tutorial for those people who would
like to learn how to use CORBA within their own Java or Perl programs for
retrieving data from remote databases and applications made available by
others through CORBA.

It's written from a hackers point-of-view with lots of examples that you
can use and abuse.

The aim of this course is to show how easy it is to use CORBA and write
clients (in Perl and Java) that can connect to a CORBA server and pull
back data. By the end of the exercises, you should understand the basics
of IDL and making connections to CORBA servers for retrieving data. This
tutorial does not deal with writing CORBA servers or advanced IDL and
CORBA features (e.g. Any's, valuetype's, the NamingService, etc.).

There are two paths through the tutorial - One using Perl and the other
using Java. If someone would write the equivalent clients in Python, then
I'd be only too delighted to include them in another path (Brad? ;)

The tutorial is available from:

Best wishes,
Alan.
