I figured that by rolling it back, we leave it in the original state when the
bug was first diagnosed. By leaving a patch in place that failed to fix the
bug, we may inadvertently introduce new bugs or mask the original cause. I
prefer to leave the original cause exposed so that whoever comes up with a
solution is not misled by any intervening unsuccesful attempts to fix it. 

Note that I'm not planning on coming up with a solution myself as I have no way
of testing this multi-threaded stuff. :)
