BTW - I think the bioperl way of doing it (flattening it and then 
putting _span on the top one) is bad. I am fully responsible for that
decision. Ugh. Stupid Ewan!. so -1 for the current behaviour!


I am presuming that Jason is going to be the benevolent dictator (every
project needs one!) for this discussion, not me, despite apperances.
(I don't like being the benevolent dictator all the time. Ensembl and
bioperl is enough for my poor soul)....
