Of course not!  However, any book introducing biologists to the tools of
the bioinformatics trade needs to cover perl, since it's so widely used.

Out of curiosity, a search for "bioinformatics & perl" on the
U.S. monster.com job site yielded 31 hits.
"bioinformatics & python"  yielded   2
"bioinformatics & java"    yielded  33
"bioinformatics & lisp"    yielded   0
