[Biopython-dev] Email addresses vs GitHub profile in CONTRIB file?

Hello all,

We're currently in the process of trying to relicense Biopython
under the "BSD 3-Clause License", see:

https://github.com/biopython/biopython/issues/898

As part of that I have been using the CONTRIB file, and have
just updated a few entries which lacked any contract information:

https://github.com/biopython/biopython/commit/9de6c509f7870403cdfaba86d6a8b7b88ba2111b?w=1

It would simplify cross checking the contributors as listed on
GitHub if the CONTRIB file entries always had a GitHub username
if possible.

QUESTION: Should GitHub profile links replace the email address,
or be in addition?

Even slightly obscured, the email addresses can potentially
be harvested by spammers. On the other hand, using just a
GitHub profile link means people can choose if they want their
email address easily viewable or not.

Your thoughts?

Peter
