Yes, we could deploy gems with guix.
Unfortunately the precedent is Debian, which tries to package gems
too. Debian is not very successfull. Part of the problem is that gems
are a moving target and people want the latest. A common problem in
bioinformatics.
Guix would do better than Debian, however, because it easily supports
multiple versions of software. If we use GUIX consistently it
would work. But bring in bundler and the user is stuffed again.
Though, maybe that will work too.
I am thinking GUIX could be good for 'stable' binary releases. Only
one way to find out... And if/when Debian brings in GNU GUIX by
default, it will be a 2-step solution.
I just set up a Virtualbox to try building a basic Ruby installer.
Small steps...
