Installing a new version of Python requires re-installing all the 3rd party
python libraries for that new version of Python.

So if you have Python 2.5 with Biopython working, and then installed
Python 2.6, you would have to install Biopython again for Python 2.6 to
use. In the meantime, you would still have the old Python 2.5+Biopython
available.
