That is interesting - the PEP has been accepted, but I guess we should
wait and see exactly what python 2.6 and 3.0 end up using before
trying to integrate this into the SeqRecord.

That does sound wise - but I'm a little hazy on how exactly PEP-3101
will work in practice for generic complex objects.
