Okay, I'm convinced!  I'll give it a go.  Thanks for the pointer, Duke, was looking at a few other options (git-svn-abandon being one).

Yes, it seems more painful than it's worth.  Also easier to map authors using other approaches.

We could place the main repo on our developer server, but we could still feasibly make github the main repo as long as we direct bug reports and other resources elsewhere.
