You can use LWP to retrieve the following URL
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mapview/maps.cgi?taxid=9606&chr=5&maps=genes
[102826728:104828399]-r&cmd=txt
and then parse the HTML.
Good luck!

Subject: [Bioperl-l] a question on gene retrieval
Dear Sirs,
I am very new to bioperl and I would highly appreciate if you could
advise me on the following.
I have the locations of the sequences (like chr5|-1|102826728|102828399)
in the human genome
and I would like to retrieve what known genes lay in the close proximity
to the sequences (they can also overlap with the sequence). What bioperl
modules and classes should I use?
Thank you very much,
Svetlana Bulashevska.
