FYI - Github now renders .org files as html.    For example: https://github.com/malcook/sce

It does not use emacs to perform the rendering, rather a ruby gem, so it misses allot, including TOC generation, for which I instead used the emacs macro toc-org which can be configured to re-write the TOC on save.

Not to knock markdown....
