The mailing lists and simple static webpages (e.g. download pages for Bio* releases) seem to be back online, as is the OBF news blog: http://news.open-bio.org/news/ - but the wiki pages are down (which unfortunately means the Bio* homepages are unavailable). Services on the failing server are being moved to virtual machines on the Amazon Cloud, so it may take a few days until everything has been set up properly and the wiki will be back. If there is anybody from the Bio* projects who wants to join the OBF's SysAdmin team and help out with projects like this one, this would be a good moment to volunteer - please email me or Chris Dagdigian (the OBF Treasurer and our head Systems Administrator). Thank you, and please bear with us, Peter On behalf of the OBF Board of Directors. Hi Andy, We've just had an OBF board meeting which touched on our SysAdmin needs and how to get new volunteers involved. Are you effectively a/the BioDAS representative? If so, could you subscribe to the root-l mailing list and we'll keep you in the loop and you can help make sure nothing is overlooked with biodas.org and cgi.biodas.org Thanks, Peter From andy.jenkinson at ebi.ac.uk Wed Nov 14 08:58:03 2012 From: andy.jenkinson at ebi.ac.uk (Andy Jenkinson) Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2012 13:58:03 +0000 Subject: [Open-bio-l] [OBF Members] OBF server outage announcement / call for SysAdmin volunteers In-Reply-To: References: <53453B14-8169-497E-A016-335BA8626A3D@ebi.ac.uk> Message-ID: <160CFD8C-31CF-4E8E-BEF6-6637589BC495@ebi.ac.uk> On 13 Nov 2012, at 18:07, Peter Cock wrote: > On Tue, Nov 13, 2012 at 8:52 AM, Andy Jenkinson > wrote: >> >> Thanks Peter. We aim at having a dozen or two short talks introducing projects, advertising brand new features of established tools, discussing issues relevant to the development of software for scientific computing, and touching on the interdependence of FLOSS and open science. You can find more info on the call for talks at: http://slayoo.github.com/fosdem2013/ The deadline for sending talk proposals is December 16th 2012. Please send your submissions or comments to: foss4scientists-devroom at lists.fosdem.org Please do forward this message to anyone potentially interested. Please also let us know if you have any suggestions for what would you like to hear about in the devroom. Looking forward to meeting you in Brussels. Thanks in advance. There are open calls for main-track talks, lightning talks, and stands at FOSDEM as well, see: http://fosdem.org/2013/ -------------- I would like to add to the above general announcement, that it would be great if a main track talk were to be given at FOSDEM about the importance of scientific open source software in science and engineering today. Main track talks last 50 minutes, and are addressed to all FOSDEM participants, something that would add to the visibility of scientific software. As an extra bonus, main track speakers have their travel and hotel expenses covered by FOSDEM. I think that the numerical python "ecosystem" could serve as an excellent "case study" of the data processing and visualisation workflow, while adding an interesting historical dimension, being one of the oldest projects of its sort. If you decide to respond to the call for main track speakers, you should start here: https://fosdem.org/2013/call_for_main_speakers/ Please note the December 1 deadline. I urge you to let us (the science software devroom conveners) know about your proposed talk, so that we may send a word of recommendation to the FOSDEM committee who will make the ultimate selection. I don't have a lot of time and I know you say it's difficult to allocate > tasks, but is there anything I can do to help get the biodas wiki back up? Hi Andy, We've just had an OBF board meeting which touched on our SysAdmin needs and how to get new volunteers involved. Are you effectively a/the BioDAS representative? If so, could you subscribe to the root-l mailing list and we'll keep you in the loop and you can help make sure nothing is overlooked with biodas.org and cgi.biodas.org Thanks, Peter From andy.jenkinson at ebi.ac.uk Wed Nov 14 13:58:03 2012 From: andy.jenkinson at ebi.ac.uk (Andy Jenkinson) Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2012 13:58:03 +0000 Subject: [Open-bio-l] [OBF Members] OBF server outage announcement / call for SysAdmin volunteers In-Reply-To: References: <53453B14-8169-497E-A016-335BA8626A3D@ebi.ac.uk> Message-ID: <160CFD8C-31CF-4E8E-BEF6-6637589BC495@ebi.ac.uk> On 13 Nov 2012, at 18:07, Peter Cock wrote: > On Tue, Nov 13, 2012 at 8:52 AM, Andy Jenkinson > wrote: >> >> Thanks Peter. I'm don't actually know what cgi.biodas.org was though. Ah. Do you know who to ask? The conveners, Sylwester Arabas, Juan Antonio A?el, Christos Siopis P.S. We thank you in advance for your expressions of interest and participation! _______________________________________________ foss4scientists-devroom mailing list foss4scientists-devroom at lists.fosdem.org https://lists.fosdem.org/listinfo/foss4scientists-devroom _______________________________________________ NumPy-Discussion mailing list NumPy-Discussion at scipy.org http://mail.scipy.org/mailman/listinfo/numpy-discussion
