Hi Sourav,

Thanks for coming forward. You are now an official contributor, and
since so far only Christian has expressed an interest as a reserve
speaker, this could work :)

The good news is as a student there are often more funding
opportunities available than as a PostDoc.

Also of interest, the ISCB Student Council is organising a forum
to help people wanting to room share to cut costs:

The bad news is that unfortunately neither Biopython, the OBF, nor
BOSC can promise you travel support.

We could perhaps submit the abstract with you as the preferred speaker
(while applying for funding), and if you cannot make it then Christian or
I would give the talk instead?

You may be able to apply for an ISCB conference travel fellowship to
attend BOSC and the entire ISMB/ECCB 2017 meeting:

I would urge you to look at the OBF Travel Fellowship if you would like to
attend BOSC (or indeed, another bioinformatics meeting/workshop).
That could provide USD $1000 towards your costs. The deadline is
quite soon - 15 April 2017.

I am on the OBF board, but due to the conflict of interest, I would not
be able to review a Biopython related fellowship application. However,
I think a proposal to attend BOSC and the CodeFest with the aim of
giving the Biopython talk and getting more involved in Biopython and
open source bioinformatics in general should be competitive.

I suggest you come up with a budget for the trip (flights, registration,
accommodation) and email me directly (off list) to discuss how realistic
this idea is.

Thanks,

Peter
