Changes checked into CVS to tackle the issues raised in comment 1 and comment 3

I have also confirmed the existing test cases still pass.

Barring any objections, I plan to include the five NCBI test cases soon - see
comment 2

Their total size is 55kb, and this would also increase the size of the
Bio/Tests/output/test_geo file from 16kb to 74kb - so an extra 113kb or
thereabouts.

By my reading of the NCBI's Data Disclaimer there is no problem with copyright:
