(Its down to 17 open bugs now)

I filed bug 1747 as "major" and feel it renders the GenBank parser
effectively useless for large genomes.

On the other hand, I don't have a nice fix to suggest.

I have been using these three changes (bugs 1716, 1717 and 1718) quite
happily on my own setup.
