[Bioperl-l] removing net dependancies

If I remember correctly Lincoln wrote his own HTTP connection code
using sockets when we were doing the BioRegistry stuff last year. This is
basically the Bio::Root::HTTPget object.

It included proxy support too - could we not slot this into Bio::DB:: code
on the 1.3 branch and remove dependancy on IO::String and LWP?

I'm not volunteering to do it but it would be a useful project for someone
who wanted to play with network programming in Perl and an aspect of
bioperl.
