I just had to re-install bioperl and all other modules. Our sysads switched to 
perl 5.8.0 and suddenly most of my scripts did not function anymore. Since I 
have a local installation (more or less independent of the perl installation, 
which resides on the servers of our department) I encountered most problems 
with the modules that are linked to a C-library. Those include GD and libxml. 
All the other modules and bioperl itself installed quite easily. But I must 
admit I have gained some experience in installing modules and libraries at 
non-standard directories over the years.
